Localised flooding could be caused by the wet conditions heading to the region. A severe weather warning for rain across parts of Devon and Cornwall has been extended by a further 24 hours. The yellow warning was issued yesterday by the Exeter-based Met Office and was originally put place from 9am on Friday February 19 to midday on Saturday. However, the alert has been updated and extended by 24 hours to finish at midday on Sunday, February Covered by the warning is an area stretching from Exeter in the east, up to Crediton, Hatherleigh, Tavistock and Ivybridge in Devon along with Launceston in Cornwall. Within the warning, the Met Office says that rain is set to be heavy and "persistent", which could result in "flooding and disruption to transport and utilities". A spokesman for the Met Office said: "Following recent rain, and further rain on Thursday, another band of rain is expected to become slow moving over Wales and western England on Friday.
It is part of South West England , bounded by Cornwall to the west, Somerset to the north-east and Dorset to the east. The city of Exeter is the county town. Plymouth and Torbay are each geographically part of Devon, but are administered as unitary authorities.

There have been four new cases identified of the Brazilian variant of Covid including three in the South West, national health bosses have confirmed. Public Health England said that three of the four have been found in South Gloucestershire and are said to be close or household contacts with the two cases previously discovered in the area. The other case was found in Bradford, West Yorkshire, after the person tested positive late last month having travelled back from Brazil via Paris on February The variant was first seen in the Brazilian city of Manaus and in total, six cases of the P1 coronavirus variant have been confirmed.
